How it works

What is vehicle GPS tracking and how does it work?

A GPS tracker is wired into equipment with an on-board voltage of 10–220 V. At a set interval it collects data — at minimum the coordinates, speed and on-board voltage, plus readings from any sensors connected to it — and sends everything over mobile internet to the Wialon platform.

In the web interface and the mobile app you can see where each unit is right now, the routes it took, how long the engine ran, how much fuel was used, and when refuellings and drains occurred. Separate modules are also available, for example for agriculture and for maintenance scheduling.

Pricing and timelines

How much does GPS tracking cost?

It depends on the task — from UAH 1,800. Prices for every tracker, sensor and adapter are listed in the Equipment panel on the home page.

For full control of complex machinery with fuel level sensors and extra options the figure can reach several tens of thousands of hryvnias: seeing where a car is, and counting litres and engine hours on heavy machinery, are two very different jobs.

Labour costs depend on the region. Installation is carried out by qualified specialists with extensive experience. Specific jobs that require narrow-profile engineers on site are quoted separately.

Is there a subscription fee for the Wialon platform?

Yes, and it already covers spoofing track cleaning, the SIM card tariff, the Wialon licence and technical and advisory support. The minimum subscription is from UAH 200 per month per object.

The exact figure depends on the platform:

  • Wialon Local — UAH 220 per month within Ukraine, or UAH 200 from 10 connected trackers. With roaming — UAH 350 per month, or UAH 325 from 10 units.
  • Wialon Hosting — from UAH 260 per month within Ukraine and UAH 365 per month with roaming. This tariff is tied to the euro rate and may change.

Integration with SENT or RMPD is billed separately at UAH 325 per month.

How long does it take to install a GPS tracker?

It depends on the type of installation:

  • about a minute — a tracker plugged into the OBD diagnostic port;
  • about 30 minutes — a wired tracker;
  • up to 4 hours — an installation with fuel level sensors: the sensor is cut into the tank and calibrated against actual volumes;
  • longer — if additional options need to be connected.

Warranty

What warranty comes with the equipment?

GPS trackers carry a 2-year warranty from the date of installation. Fuel level sensors carry a warranty from 18 months.

Will fitting a tracker void the warranty on my vehicle?

Formally, a manufacturer or dealer can withdraw the warranty because of any electrical device connected to the on-board network. That is why connecting additional equipment is worth agreeing with the warranty service before you buy the vehicle.

In practice it is not hard to arrange. Warranty departments have an interest in selling the equipment themselves, so it is usually easy to settle on one of two options: their electricians carry out the installation, or ours do it following the wiring diagram they provide.

Our equipment is certified in Ukraine and abroad, and that makes the approval noticeably easier.

Is your equipment certified?

Teltonika publishes certificates for each model separately: CE/RED, UKCA, RoHS, REACH and E-Mark — the automotive type approval under UNECE R10, which is exactly what confirms a device is suitable for installation in a vehicle. The documents are available on the official Teltonika certificates page.

Bitrek is a Ukrainian brand of NPP Diskovi Systemy; its production is certified to ISO 9001 and the products hold Ukrainian certificates of conformity.

If the warranty service asks for documents on a specific model, we provide them before installation.

Fuel monitoring

How is fuel monitored — over CAN or with a level sensor?

It depends on whether the equipment moves or not, and on the geometry of the fuel tank.

Stationary equipment — generators, pumping stations. Here CAN can be calibrated properly, because the fuel in the tank does not slosh. If the unit reports the level over CAN we take the data from there and no fuel level sensor is needed; we fit one only when fuel cannot be read from the bus.

Moving equipment — the other way round: factory data is imprecise because of blind zones at the bottom and top of the tank, the coarse resolution of factory sensors, and fuel movement while driving, which a modern fuel level sensor smooths out. So on cars and trucks we take the level from a fuel level sensor and add CAN separately — when, besides fuel, the customer needs engine RPM and temperature, coolant temperature, AdBlue level, the factory fuel counter and on-board computer error codes.

Will I see fuel drains?

Yes. A sharp drop in level that is not related to engine operation is logged as a drain, with the time and place. The alert arrives in the mobile app and pops up in the web interface. Duplication to Telegram or SMS is optional — the SMS messages themselves are billed separately.

Equipment and platform

What equipment do you install?

99% of the requests we have received in recent years are fully covered by Teltonika trackers (FMB920, FMB125, FMB140, FMC920, FMC003), Bitrek (BI 310, BI 868, BI 820, BI 450), Epsilon fuel level sensors, LV-CAN200 CAN adapters with ECAN 02 contactless readers, Bluetooth temperature sensors, beacons and personal trackers.

We choose the model individually for the task at hand.

Which platform does the monitoring run on?

On Wialon — over 3 million connected objects worldwide and support for more than 3,000 device models from different manufacturers. Access through the web interface and the mobile app.

Can the monitoring be connected to our own systems?

Yes, through the REST API or the built-in retranslator. We also support integration with SENT (Poland) and RMPD.

Reliability and service

Does the system keep working when GPS is jammed?

Yes. The tracker keeps recording sensor data even when the coordinates are distorted. False points caused by jamming and spoofing are removed by a nightly track cleaning algorithm — it is included in the subscription and is not billed separately.

Do you work across the whole of Ukraine?
